Welcome to Lotus Oasis

Who We Are

Lotus Oasis Counseling and Wellness is a telehealth therapy practice serving clients across Ohio. Led by Melissa Roark, LPCC, the practice specializes in trauma-focused care — with particular experience supporting clients navigating complex relationships and life transitions.

Our Mission

We believe healing is not linear, and every client deserves a therapeutic relationship built on trust, dignity, and genuine care. Like the lotus flower that rises from murky water, our clients carry the capacity to grow through difficulty into resilience and wholeness.

Through accessible telehealth services, culturally responsive care, and a commitment to meeting each person exactly where they are, Lotus Oasis is dedicated to walking alongside our clients as they claim their sense of safety, self, and peace.

“Just as a lotus is born in water, grows in water, and rises out of water to stand above it, unsoiled...”

- Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha)

Our Philosophy

Our approach is rooted in both Buddhist principles and evidence-based clinical practice. We draw on concepts like presence, impermanence, and non-judgmental awareness alongside proven modalities like CBT, DBT, and ACT — blending ancient wisdom with modern science. At the core of our work is a simple belief: healing happens within the authentic self, and the authentic self only emerges when it feels safe enough to do so. Our goal is to offer that safety — a space where you can set down the masks, the performance, and the pressure to be anything other than who you truly are, so that real healing and authentic living can begin.

Our Approach

Lotus Oasis Counseling and Wellness is deeply rooted in the Buddhist philosophy of why people suffer and how people heal. Our approach is not only guided by evidence-based practice but by great psychological and philosophical thinkers such as Irvin Yalom, M.D.,Nāgārjuna, Pema Chödrön, Ram Dass and Thích Nhất Hạnh. At Lotus Oasis, we use a holistic and integrative approach that is rooted in existentialism, cognitive behavior theory, and dialectical theory. We primarily utilize mindfulness-focused and trauma-focused CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, the Gottman Method, and a Family Systems approach to treatment. Therapy is tailored to fit your specific story rather than a one-size-fits-all model. Sessions are held virtually, making it possible to get support from wherever feels safest and most comfortable for you.

Who We Work With

At Lotus Oasis, we welcome individuals, couples, and families ages 15 and up.

Many clients come to us during some of life's hardest moments — navigating complex relationships, homelessness, sudden transitions, the loss of a loved one or even the loss of themselves amidst it all. Wherever you are coming from, we will meet you there. We also proudly work with LGBTQ+ individuals and those in the midst of transition, offering an affirming and judgment-free space. Additionally, we support older adults and those in end-of-life stages, honoring the unique needs and reflections that come with this season of life.
